About Water Jet Machining

Apply pressure to ordinary tap water and direct it through a tiny nozzle and it can be used to clean or even cut a wide range of materials. Increase that pressure to 60,000 lb per square inch and add a fine garnet abrasive, and about the only things it can't be used to cut are industrial diamonds and tempered glass - diamonds because they're too hard, and tempered glass because it's designed to shatter instead.

Waterjets.orgWater-jet cutting can be divided into two types: Pure waterjet is commonly used to cut rubber, foam and even some foods! Abrasivejets go far beyond that, and can be used to cut some of the hardest materials. HFI's capabilities and expertise are with these abrasive waterjet applications.
